Avatar The film offers some ideas reflection on the issue "name".
The first is that environments such as the military (or in this case, the private security agency Sec-Ops ) tend to indrappellare people, and this leads to call and write mainly for the name tags of the cabinets with the surname first name (which is only the beginning): Spacer M, T Sully, etc.. (For those who have not seen the film: T stands for Tom's brother, Jake).
The second is that in academia and research, while very bureaucratic, there is still a minimum of attention to compliance with the correct forms. In the tapes of the reports that Jake sees the researcher and the coordinator of the project (PI: principal investigator ) are indicated with the surname and first names, but separated by a comma: Sully, J. and Augustine, G.
The third is that people still show up with the name before the surname: Jake Sully not Jake Sully. And apparently also in the language Na'vi using the name before the surname: Pivlltxe but Jakesully.
